The Golden Age of handcarved carousel animals lasted 50 years from 1880-1930. The side of each animal facing the audience is known as the "romance" side. This is the side that the carvers focused their greatest attention. Cherubs, eagles, flags, griffins and other fanciful creations were added especially to the outside row animals.
The heritage of the Golden Age of the carousel lives on. Hopefully these beautiful figures we've created will continue to delight future generations of Americans.
It took years to create this magnificent work. Co-ordinated efforts between myself and the ceramic creator/painter created some replicas of famous merry-go-round animals.
There are 14 horses, a lion, tiger, giraffe, swan chariot seat, ostrich and a zebra. In the horse line there is a plumed horse, armored horse, parade horse, the famous "Ghost" horse, a gorgeous Arabian Horse, indian ponies and more.
