This saddle is a combination of a close contact and an all purpose saddle.

Close contact saddles generally have a shallow seat as compared with an all purpose deeper seat. However, some close contact saddles have deep seats. Close contact saddles with their low pommels are generally used for jumping and cross country, putting the balance point closer to the pommel. Pleasure riders, endurance trail riders, young kids, older adults and riders not jumping or doing cross country prefer the all purpose saddle. The balance point is closer to the cantle. As far as the square cantle and the round cantle - both the cross country and the all purpose saddles have sported both looks.

Many people get confused between the two saddle styles and are often locked into a misconceived set of details. By combining both types into this style, you have the feel of the close contact built into an all purpose saddle.
